April Lockhart

April Lockhart (born July 4 April, 1995) started her musical journey in the 7th grade in which she began piano and guitar classes. At the age of seven April started taking guitar and piano lessons. The lessons sparked her passion in writing songs. The singer spent much of her time when she was 14 composing songs and experimenting with music. Soon after, April started to travel with her dad and write in NY and LA. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in Take My Hand for her friends who were dealing with disabilities, peer pressure or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart is also gaining a growing popularity as a lifestyle influencer as well as a spokesperson for the popular brand of clean and natural beauty Ilia. Lockhart was born with no left hand and that is part of her story, but that's not the entire story. So, Lockhart's Instagram page does not shy away from her disabilities, yet the focus isn't on the issue neither. What message does it convey? It's this: We all have many identities, we're far more complicated than we believe that we're. Lockhart tells Lockhart via video "I do not believe that disability should define me. I don't intend to influence disabilities because I've got plenty to offer." It doesn't impact my day-to-day living. I continue to do the normal things and have adapted to my disabilities. It's an integral aspect of my existence, therefore it's important to talk about it. Self-acceptance is a long marathon however Lockhart is an absolute inspiration on that front. Yet, she confesses having moments of feeling uneasy about her appearance, and the clothes which displayed her arms. She now wears whatever she wants. And she posts her pictures to social networks. She says that self-love is a journey. It's not clear if you'll ever reach the point of no return. It's a fact that I see with everyone with whatever the source of their anxiety. It's essential to have those that know and can relate to the way you feel. They will be the ones asking your: What are you think about?
