Zazie Olivia Beetz was born Berlin in 1991. Her father is an German cabinet maker who emigrated to USA in 1990. Beetz, who graduated from LaGuardia in 2007, was a student at Skidmore College and studied French. Beetz immediately began auditioning after school and was able to land the part as Van on the set of Atlanta. Beetz, born to an African American father and mother who was a German mother born in Berlin from Berlin was brought up as the only New Yorker who was bilingual. Zazie has performed in theaters in the community and on stage in New York from the time she was a child. Zazie discovered that she loved acting when she was in high school.
